What is a broken pixel?
Owners of LCD monitors and other equipment equipped with screens often encounter problems such as broken pixels, which are a defect. The appearance of the broken pixel is constantly the same and does not change when the picture on the screen changes. They come in several types: white dot, dark dot, color dot. The first and third type can be eliminated, but the second one can’t be removed anyway. When buying an LCD monitor, a new one, and even more so a second-hand one, it is imperative to check it for broken pixels, which are often found in used models, but also in new ones.
On which monitors are often broken pixels
First of all, broken pixels are found on inexpensive Chinese-made monitors, which go on sale with the presence of many defects, after a few weeks of active use, the defects increase. On monitors from well-established companies, such defects are quite rare. In any case, the screen must be checked with the help of software that detects defects. It is not always possible to visually find broken pixels, but if there is no way to check the monitor using the program, you need to change the image on the monitor, then you will be able to find damaged pixels that, with certain colors of the screen, may not be visible to the naked eye. You need to inspect the screen completely, even in the corners.
Damaged pixels are a common occurrence for LCD monitors that were already in use. They most often appear as a result of mechanical influences on the monitor screen, shock, pressing, falling, and after a certain operating time.
What is a pixel?
A pixel is called the smallest part of the LCD screen, despite its miniature size, the pixel has the property of color reproduction and color reproduction, which allows you to get a high-quality color image on the monitor screen. The monitor screen consists of a huge number of pixels, which in case of damage become broken and impair the comfort of use of the device. In fact, in absolutely every monitor model there are initially broken pixels, but they, as a rule, do not affect the comfort of using the device.
To check the screen for dead pixels, Nokia Test monitor is used. During testing using this program, the device is driven by colors, so during testing you can see defects in the form of dead pixels. Buying a monitor with such defects is not recommended. When buying a new monitor, defects may not be detected, but the first broken pixel often appears after some time of operation.
Fix dead pixels
In order to get rid of damaged pixels on the monitor, you can use software, for example, the program Bad Crystal. This is a completely safe program for the monitor, which runs it in high-frequency colors at a specific place where a broken pixel is detected, as a result, you can get rid of it. Opening hours will depend on the specific situation. In some cases, a few minutes are enough, and sometimes it takes several hours to repair the damaged areas. Now there are sites that have applications for repairing damaged pixels, just go to the resource, open a window and place it on the damaged area, after which it remains to wait for the result. You won’t get rid of black or burnt pixels in any way. But, unlike other types, they are less noticeable, so during operation of the monitor there will be a minimum of inconvenience. For the new LCD monitors, the presence of black dots is unacceptable, so it is better to abandon this option and ask for another monitor or model. If it is used, then it is necessary to look where the defect is located so that it does not interfere with work.
The mechanical way to eliminate defects is to use a cotton swab, which you need to drive in a circle where the defect is detected, periodically clicking on the defective pixel. In many cases, this method is quite effective and allows you to get rid of defects without using software. To effectively eliminate defects, you can use both the software and the mechanical method, then the probability of success will be higher.
If software and mechanical methods do not give a result, then fixing the damaged pixels will not work.
Depending on the type of screen matrix, pixel production technology differs. The pixel consists of many LEDs, the number of which varies greatly depending on what resolution and diagonal of the screen the monitor has. Different color LEDs are used in the pixel, and the white balance is always respected. Modern monitors are equipped with SMD units, which are produced in a fully automatic mode, thanks to this it is possible to avoid low-quality products.
