Chromebook Acer Chromebook C720 – the first acquaintance with the new product
Netbooks did not have time to take root and were very quickly replaced by tablets. But no niche has long remained free, and new laptop models, which have the pre-installed OC Chrome as the operating system, began to claim netbooks. Literally everyone has one thing in common – without access to the Internet for most users, they turn into ordinary scrap metal. No exception and the Acer Chromebook C720 Chromebook. Nevertheless, you can live without the Network with this device, but with a limited set of functions. Below we will consider this model in more detail.
If we go back to history, then in the USA and Europe, chromebooks appeared in mass production only in 2011. Among the first manufacturers was Acer, which managed to release to this day only three models of such devices. The first was the Acer ZGB, in 2012 the Acer C710 appeared, and at the end of the past, the Acer C720 chromebook was officially announced, which is now available for free sale in Russia. It is the characteristics of this model that interest us the most.

In terms of price level, this device can be compared equally with netbooks. Domestic retailers keep the cost at about 10,000 rubles. Given that the screen size is 11.6 inches, it is quite comparable and looks very similar to standard representatives of netbooks. But the insides differ from the filling of the latter quite seriously.
Firstly, the usual hard drive is completely absent here and the so-called SSD is installed instead – a solid-state drive. This already emphasizes the advantage of the chromebook. This has become possible because a lot of free space is not required for the operating system and all kinds of software to work. The decision to change the usual HDD to SSD made it possible to place all the iron stuffing in a case no more than two centimeters thick. This is an obvious advantage of the new device over laptops that sometimes resemble brick. But again it’s worth recalling that without connecting to the Web this almost perfect beginner is sometimes completely useless.
If we talk about other external differences with laptops and netbooks in the Acer Chromebook C720 Chromebook, it is worth noting that there are no F keys on the keyboard – they are replaced by multimedia buttons necessary for working under OC Chrome. And, perhaps, the most shocking difference from the usual keyboard is that there is no Windows key that many users have come to love. In general, the keyboard unit can be called successful and fits perfectly into the concept of all inexpensive netbooks. A plus can be called the fact that during operation the keyboard does not bend too much, and the keys have a very short stroke. Given the thickness of the device, this is understandable, although a bit unusual. The backlight for the keys of this young man, alas, is not provided for and is not set according to status.
The touch panel is very pleasantly surprised. It seems that the specialists in Google were able to successfully solve the problem, which was often, to put it mildly, a little unsuccessful for almost all laptop developers. This has been made possible thanks to completely new and truly superbly working touchpad drivers. The physical sensations from working with him are very pleasant, even taking into account the limited touchpad in size – only 5.2 X 9.3 centimeters. According to the scheme of operation, the touchpad itself is comparable to its counterparts from Apple (to simulate the right mouse button, you have to touch the device with not one, but two fingers).
Go ahead – look at the ports and connectors. Their number is completely equivalent to that available in the ultrabook family. Two USB sockets, one of which works in USB 3.0 version. The same connectors for connecting a card reader, audio and HDMI. From the back end there is a place for using SIM cards.
The lower part of the Acer Chromebook C720 chromebook is unremarkable, although it causes a feeling of firm conviction that the Windows 8 logo sticker, which is nowadays on almost all netbooks, is very lacking.
A few words about the technical characteristics of new items
As mentioned above, this device does not have a hard drive, instead of which an SSD drive is installed. Its volume can be called well, just incredibly small – only 16 GB. But this is quite enough for work, especially when you consider that the model works under the Chrome OS, and now it’s customary to store all the information not on its own media, but somewhere in the clouds – in network cloud storages, the volumes of which Google provides are quite sufficient.
A little surprising is the presence of WI-FI with a working range of 5 GHz. These frequencies are not inherent today even to some very advanced routers and adapters on ultrabooks of a high price category.
The layout of the internal filling is made as tight as possible, which fully complies with the requirements for observing space savings. The Intel Celeron 2955U processor is equipped with a standard cooling system. The operating frequency for each of the two cores is 1.44 GHz.
