How to calculate a person’s location by IP
Each computer has its own network card – IP, designed specifically for searching, receiving and transmitting information. The IP address on the PC can be local, dynamic, or static. The latter is fixed directly to the device and remains unchanged.
Dynamic is provided by providers: it changes every time you disconnect from the network and connect to it again. Local is designed to connect peripheral devices in one territory (it can be a home network, office or an entire enterprise), as well as to create local networks. Depending on what kind of IP a person is using, you can determine his exact location or the zone from which he goes to the Internet.
Is it possible to calculate a specific person by IP?
This question is often asked by users who, for one reason or another, want to know exactly who is contacting them via the Internet. In fact, this question is not entirely correct. IP allows you to calculate not the identity, but the location of the user. Often, specialized services are used for this. One of the most popular IP address resolvers is the Whois service. With it, you can find out what browser is used by a person who goes online, what operating system is installed on his gadget, and also a phone number. In some cases, the program also shows the actual address of the owner of the IP address.
The essence of the work of determinant services is to analyze the data of a dynamic IP address. In fact, they “pull out” the information that the Internet service provider has. You are getting:
name of the city in which the person you are interested in;
the time zone in which he resides.
And, of course, such free services will definitely not allow an ordinary person who does not have the resource, which, for example, special services, security officers or cyber police, to know the name, surname and exact contact details by IP.
Why do I need to determine the location by IP address?
As a rule, such information is of interest in the following cases:
You have become a victim of a scammer on the Internet and want to understand who deceived you.
Your mailbox, social media accounts or wallets were hacked, and you noticed that someone came from your page to the network (this is often done either by acquaintances for a number of not very pleasant reasons, or by intruders in order to withdraw money from your accounts )
Your online accounts (Vkontakte, Facebook, Instagram, Skype, etc.) have been hacked, and they are asking for money from your friends and relatives.
You are in contact with a person, but you suspect that a completely different person is hiding under him.
You are administering a forum or site, you want to block users who, for some reason, are objectionable to you (they are spam sources, they create anti-advertising for your resource, etc.).
There may be more reasons to calculate a location. The problem is that providers, as a rule, do not disclose information about their customers and provide it only at the legal request of law enforcement officials.
Are there other ways to get data by IP address?
Indeed, using separate methods, it is quite realistic to calculate both a specific IP address of a person and other data. Here are just a few of them:
The network has an IPLogger service site that allows you to create trap links for IP addresses. It is enough to make such a link and, having previously disguised it as a clickable image, an interesting poll or message, send it to the user you are interested in. As soon as a person goes through your trap, you automatically get his IP address.
Email services often provide information about the IP address from which the email came. If you ask a person to answer your question or send something by e-mail, you can find the IP in the decryption of the letter.
After receiving the IP address using the appropriate services, you get the location data of the person you are interested in. It is about services:
white whois and similar ones.
Information will be fairly general: country, city of residence, user’s operating system, time zone in which he is located. Of course, they will not show in which area of the city or at what address the PC used to access the network is located. But if, for example, you communicate on the network (who appears to be a person from another city, region or country) and suspect that someone you know is lying to you, the city of residence will allow you to check your guess. Also, the geography of the search can be narrowed by comparing the information received with the data indicated on the social network, etc. More detailed data, as we have already said, can be obtained only from the provider, if you contact the law enforcement authorities.
By the way, if you don’t want someone on the network trying to find your IP address using these methods, use a VPN, proxy server or free network like a Tor browser to access the Internet.
