Elastix today is a universal multifunctional solution with which you can quickly deploy a VoIP service. At the moment, it is he who remains the most convenient and multitasking solution. On the basis of Elastix, in addition to the VoIP service, you can deploy other information exchange solutions.
The Elastix project was launched in 2006 as an interface for calling reports in the Asterisk software telephone platform. Then this project became one of the Asterisk distributions.
Elastix is designed not only to provide high-quality telephone communications, but also to integrate other means of communication, which ultimately will significantly increase the productivity of company employees. Elastix is based on the Linux CentOS 5 distribution, is easy to install and configure using the Web interface.
The unified communication platform Elastix is arranged on the principle of “all at once in one”, combining a mail server (E-mail server), Voice over IP-PBX, Jabber messaging tool, fax server, 2 CRM systems – SugarCRM and VTigerCRM, in addition, tools designed for organizing group work (Collaboration), a server for video conferencing and web-conferences.
The Elastix communication platform helps to create an effective environment in any organization or company, by adding many additional features and expanding functionality, which allows you to make a business truly productive and global. The central office of the company where Elastix is installed can be located anywhere in Russia, and branches can be located all over the world, while they will be stably provided with all available types of high-quality and low-cost communications.
Of the main features of Elastix are:
Support voicemail and email
Configuring elastix via the web interface
Low cost of use and ownership
The presence of two CRM-systems
Elastix is a unique communication server, characterized by the availability of software that has open source code, due to the availability of which, the program has no special restrictions for viewing, studying and making changes. This allows the user of the program to independently participate in the necessary specific modifications of the program. The main goals and objectives of creating Elastix software are to combine all the communication tools available at the company level into a single solution.
To date, we can confidently state that the period of flaws and errors of Elastix has long passed. The developers of the program as much as possible simplified the installation mechanism of Elastix with the help of KickStart automation files. There are three such auxiliary files in the distribution. Users who are already familiar with the Anaconda distribution installation program will not find anything new, complicated or unusual for themselves when installing Elastix.
The standard installation mode will require the administrator to provide information on several simple points: specifying the time zone, administrator password, and type of keyboard layout. The system allocates the entire volume of the hard disk for the program, while all the necessary partitions and optimal disk layout are created automatically and without warning the administrator. Therefore, using or installing Elastix for conducting various kinds of experiments in this case will not work.
Problems and difficulties do not arise when installing packages. A DHCP server is used to configure network interfaces and to obtain an IP address.
A little more freedom is provided by the more advanced level of the Advanced program, which is activated by entering the advanced option in the boot menu. ” In this case, disk partitioning and network interface settings in manual mode become available. At the same time, the basic composition of basic applications does not change at all.
After the reboot, the system will be absolutely ready for further service settings using web-based interfaces. Registration of the program in the console will be required if the network interface is not configured during installation. It will not create big problems and inconveniences, just call the netconfig option and enter all the necessary parameters.
An OpenSSH server has been added to the program package, which later on, if necessary, will allow you to manage the program with remote access using the SSH protocol.
To connect to the web-based interface, you will need to register the server IP address in the browser. By default, the program is set to English, which can be changed by clicking on the appropriate tab.
The web interface is based on seven basic tabs for switching, configuring, and working correctly in the program:
E-mail – for mail server settings, used accounts, for mail forwarding
System – helps to activate and configure a DHCP server, create groups and distribute rights between them
